Donnaperna marquis palace

BETWEEN HISTORY, ART AND ROMANCE

The Donnaperna marquis palace dominates, with its majesty, the entire historic center of Pomarico. It stands very close to the church of Sant’Antonio, in the beating heart of the town, and was built between 1773 and 1778, by the will of the Marquis Filippo Maria Donnaperna. The upper floor, the one originally intended for the baronial residence and which can be reached via a majestic staircase, houses the ballroom, also known as the pink room, after the color with which the walls are painted. It is an environment of great artistic value, with the vaults decorated in tempera between the end of the eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth century, which refer to the Neapolitan landscape pictorial tradition of that era: a real synthesis of history, art and romanticism. Today the Donnaperna marquis palace hosts numerous cultural activities: conferences, book presentations and concerts. Finally, in some rooms on the first floor there is the Historical Museum of peasant culture and popular traditions of Pomarico, where it is possible to come across tools, objects and costumes of the past, which recall the history of Pomarico and its people.
